Fearful to repent
the children of doom, dare to look up,
faces tear burnt & merciless spent,
marked by not so secrete stains,
faithless sorrows sad lament
for what quality of mercy remains..

Stars seem vacant as the unseen grace of gods & man,
for what quality of mercy remains..
Harsh, complacent, even cruel,
reflections of an absentee heart,
a love too vain..
Here faith betrayed, remains the stain.
For the children of doom
the quality of mercy is sorely strained..

Faithful or faithless
it falls to us of mortal coil
to labor long
&
heart sick toil
for what quality of mercy remains.

Despite the flower of our year
by guidance unseen
or
self will planted seed
what quality of mercy remains
is our garden to heed...
